Certificate in Humanitarian Logistics: positive comments from candidates

January 31st, 2007 | By: Martin Arrand

In my report of the CILT HELP Forum I mentioned in passing the Certificate in Humanitarian Logistics. Yesterday the latest edition of CILTWorld dropped through my letterbox and I was delighted to see a 2-page spread on the qualification.

Charles Muchiri – Head of Warehousing for the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) Regional Logistics Centre in Nairobi, Kenya – is one of the first candidates on the programme. He says the course has helped him

… to work in other sections in the supply chain as opposed to when I could only work competently in the warehouse. This has assured me a career progression to becoming a fully competent logistician.

The Certificate is the product of collaboration between the Fritz Institute in the USA, CILT(UK) and a number of humanitarian NGOs. In the UK the qualification is available through Logistics Learning Alliance.

As many potential students will be deployed on humanitarian operations – and many humanitarian logisticians are nationals of non-OECD countries – the course is provided by distance learning, with all the materials on CD.
